Investment Expands Artilium’s R&D into Innovative Mobile Presence Capabilities for Its ARTA Mobile Services Platform
Artilium, a leading telecoms software developer of Microsoft-based carrier-grade software for mobile network operators, is to increase its research and development activities and create 30 new jobs at its operations in Dunfermline, Scotland.
The new investment is being supported by Scottish Enterprise with a general Research and Development grant of £750,000 in conjunction with investment from Artilium.
“We chose Scotland as the base for our planned expansion in development capacity because of its highly-talented workforce, the excellence of its academic institutions, and the business environment we discovered there, which is clearly supportive of enterprise and innovation,” said Artilium Chief Executive Officer Robert Marcus.
Artilium’s office in Dunfermline holds key intellectual property for its Tri-cell Intelligent Location System technology, the backbone for the mobile presence capabilities of its ARTA Mobile Services Platform. Dr Gordon Povey, the VP of Mobile Development within Artilium, was previously an academic in communications technology at Edinburgh University and remains an Honorary Fellow at the university. He still maintains strong links with local universities including placement opportunities from students within Artilium to foster the development of talent within the area.
Enterprise Minister Jim Mather said: “The creation of 30 new R&D jobs at Artilium underlines Scotland’s reputation for innovation excellence and resourceful, inventive people. The Scottish Government is creating an environment in which more and more Scottish based research and development can flourish. Enterprising projects of this kind can help us turnaround decades of economic underperformance through increased, sustainable economic growth. I wish all at Artilium every success in developing this project.”
Welcoming the investment, Linda McPherson, Regional Director East at Scottish Enterprise, said, “The decision by Artilium to invest in its R&D activities in Dunfermline is an indication of how highly Scotland and its talent is regarded – and with its high growth potential, it is exactly the kind of company that we want to encourage to stay in Scotland. The company’s leading-edge technology has placed Artilium at the forefront of its field and we are delighted that Scotland will play a role in taking this technology and reputation still further.”
